Several changes to the NDIS are coming into effect from 1 October, including updates to participant contact requirements, new registration rules for Supported Independent Living (SIL) providers, and changes that may affect some support budgets.

To help you stay informed, we’ve summarised the key updates below. As more information becomes available, we’ll continue to share updates and guidance to help you understand what these changes mean for you.

New participant contact requirements

From 1 October, the NDIA will have the authority to suspend a participant’s NDIS plan if they have been unable to make contact after a specified period of time.

If there is still no response within 90 days of a plan being suspended, the NDIA may revoke the person’s participant status.

Changes for Supported Independent Living (SIL)

New NDIS rules are being introduced that may affect participants receiving Supported Independent Living (SIL) supports.

Under these changes, all providers delivering SIL supports must be NDIS registered by 1 October 2026. The aim is to strengthen consistency and safety across SIL service delivery.

These changes will apply only to plans that are created or reassessed from 1 October 2026, or plans that are renewed from 1 February 2027.
